Brain is not a computer

The human brain is a complex structure, and scientists are far from the full understanding of how it works. At different times, this ignorance gave rise to various colorful comparisons with complex processes and mechanisms. Now the brain is usually identified with a computer: brain activity with gears, a neural network with wires. We explain why such a comparison is fundamentally wrong.

The rapid progress in digital technology shows that machines are processing more and more data. This was the basis for the birth of the myth: we know that the brain is able to cope with the most difficult tasks and store a large amount of information in memory. However, the main difference lies in the fact that the brain is a living, highly organized structure, inseparable from the body.

The computer processes the data obtained by specified algorithms. In the human brain, these algorithms are not incorporated. They are formed in the process of life and development of the organism, and they are unique for each person. That is why we all react differently to the same events, perceive the same works of art and have different preferences.

What is more, the brain does not store exact copies of data like computer files. A good example is our memory. Our memories are transformed: every time, referring to an episode in memory, the brain interprets the stored information differently. This is influenced by experience and emotional state. In this regard, the witnesses of the same event may not coincide with the memories of it over time.

Finally, the brain cannot be turned off or reloaded. What we usually mean by rebooting is switching attention, we stop concentrating on some tasks, being distracted by others. In a dream, our brain works even more actively than during periods of wakefulness, it processes and structures the information obtained.

The human brain is a moving structure that develops or weakens depending on our activities. Regular mental loads contribute to the development of cognitive functions and, as a result, increased intelligence. Train your brain and remember - there is no limit to perfection!
